GOTLANDS STUDENTKÅR RINDI
Student Union for Students at Uppsala University, Campus Gotland
4
main tasks
1. Academic influence
The union appoints student representatives to the university's decision-making and supporting bodies, such as faculty boards and program councils. The representatives have the same rights as other members, participate in meetings with preparations, and receive training through the union. Their work is coordinated and strengthened through the Student Representative Council (Studentrepresentantråd, STRÅ).
The union also provides training, support materials (handbook for student representatives), and advice to help you carry out your duties effectively.
2. Study and study-social support
The union acts as a support channel for questions about study environments, course evaluations, grades, literature, student finances, and housing. They offer services such as loans, association advice, and help with housing issues at Uppsala University.
Membership also gives access to discounts on university functions, digital resources, and scholarships.
3. Students grouped by field of study
There are several student unions for different faculty areas.
For example, Uppsala Studentkår for humanities, social sciences, medicine, and teacher education. Uppsalaekonomerna for economists. Uppsala teknolog- och naturvetarkår for technology and natural science students. Farmacevtiska studentkåren for pharmacy, and Juridiska föreningen for lawyers.
4. Events and social community
The student unions organize “welcome weeks” (insparken) in collaboration with student nations, where new students meet, are assigned mentor groups, go on city tours, and participate in competitions—all to facilitate integration and create a sense of community.
They also organize section activities such as pub nights, trips, sporting events, and exam parties, often in collaboration with the respective section or student nation.
-
Welcome events for new students
In addition to the union’s work to improve your studies, the student unions also organize orientation events for new students. There you get a chance to get to know your classmates and learn how student life works.
If we can recommend one thing, it is that you participate in the orientation events. It is great fun and will give you a flying start to your studies here in Uppsala. -
Cultural activities
The student unions also organize cultural activities such as orchestras, choirs, and theater/revues.
They also usually hold formal dinners and parties that you can attend.
So there is something for everyone! -
Get involved
So you can get involved in student politics, party activities, and fundraising. And it's so much fun! Go for it!
More information on how you can get involved can be found under the tab “Get involved”.
UUFS
Uppsala University’s
United Student Unions
The foundation for student influence at Uppsala University was cemented with the establishment of the Uppsala studentkår in 1849.
The Faculty of Pharmacy moved from Stockholm to Uppsala in the 1970s and Farmacevtiska studentkåren followed. Gotlands studentkår Rindi was granted union status at Uppsala University in 2013 when Gotland University College became part of Uppsala University. Uppsala teknolog- och naturvetarkår was established in 2014 as a formal student union when Uppsala studentkår relinquished its union status for the Faculty of Science and Technology at Uppsala University. In 2016, Uppsalaekonomerna also became independent student unions at Uppsala University.
With the increasing number of student unions at Uppsala University, the need for a clear central student voice has grown. In order to unite the student voice towards Uppsala University, the organization UUFS was started in January 2020, of which the six student unions are members.
