Uppsala is so much more than lectures and exams. The nations are the social heart of the city, offering housing, scholarships, clubs, culture, pubs, sports—and so much more. Student organizations run by students, for students!

Founded in 1477, Uppsala University is the oldest in the Nordics. But don’t let the age fool you—our student life keeps it forever young. Here, you’ll find not only a world-class university but a student experience like no other on the planet. Nowhere else will you find anything quite like Uppsala’s vibrant nations. For over 350 years, their motto has been by students, for students—and now it’s your turn to join the tradition.

There are thirteen nations, each originally tied to a specific region of Sweden. If you traveled far, you needed a place to celebrate your hometown holidays—and honestly, that part hasn’t changed much! Nowadays you can choose whichever nation fits best.

Today, the nations run their own pubs and clubs, open to all students with a nation card. They also offer rich cultural experiences like orchestras, choirs, and student theatre. So whatever you're into, there’s something for you.
